It's Not Just Miss South Carolina

Caitlin Upton should feel very proud today. It seems she's not the only young person in America who appears to be a little less than informed. Christian activist and author Mark Dice dropped by San Diego State University to see how many of tomorrow's leaders know what year 9/11 happened.

Apparently, the unsuspecting >students couldn't quite remember. Perhaps if Mark had given them a hint -- like the year the Mariah Carey's cinematic masterpiece "Glitter" was released, or perhaps the year that Britney Spears' "Slave" song topped the charts. Come on Mark, give 'em somethin' to work with! It is understandable though, that collegians would be more likely to remember the last time Britney had a hit rather than the day that changed America forever. Oh Brit Brit! Ding Dang!

Over 2,700 people lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

46. Perhaps if the next attack on our soil happens on the west coast, they'll care enough to remember what year it occurs in. I think I can safely say that those of us living in NY could tell you what year, hour and moment that atrocity occurred. We will NEVER forget where we were, and what we were doing when we first learned the Trade Center had been hit.
This generation coming up is truly the ME, MYSELF and I generation. Selfish, self involved, lazy, and wanting everything handed to them on a silver platter. They all talk about getting respect, but seem to have a hard time showing it. Truly sad, for them and for this country.

47. You say "author and Christian activist," I say "conspiracy-theory nutjob and rabble rouser . . . why give this goof any more attention by promoting his video and the rest of the trash hosted on his site?

49. What's even more sad, is that guy believes in the 9/11 conspiracies.

50. Anyone can point a microphone into people's faces and get some of them to say stupid things or expose their own ignorance ... hell, Jay Leno's been running his version of that schtick for 20 years. The fact that people who are old enough to be in college can't remember which year 9/11 occurred is unfortunate, but it's hardly groundbreaking news. By linking to the site of a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, TMZ is helping promote his ridiculous theories about the Illuminati, the Catholic Church and the Freemasons being responsible for the attacks. To me, that seems pretty lame and irresponsible even for a tacky gossip site.

For added fun, you should check out the video where this guy harrasses kids buying the latest Harry Potter book and calls them Satanists. He's a moron, and offering him any attention or credibility is a mistake.

51. As a young college student. i am saddened that people, my age cannot remember such a horrific day, there has not been a day like 9/11 in my lifetime. the country stopped to remember to dwell on the loss. the country, as a whole not just politicians but also citizens all wanted to fight, we did not want to lose our freedom. but watching/reading this just shows how todays teens/young adults really do not care about the reality of our past. we were shocked when our country was attacked, and we should still be shocked as our battle for our freedom is not over yet. Thousands of our men and women are out there fighting, and more and more are shipped off everyday, each leaving a family, friends and other loved ones at home, worrying everyday about the lives, their lives could end everyday. I just do not know how my generation has become so selfish, life is not all about soroities, parties, and friends, though social lives are good, we need to remember those lost and those who are fighting for our right to be free, and to have privleges like being able to go to college, because even in America we are not free.

53. That's why I think you should be at least thirty years old to have the privilege of voting. And then an IQ test should be administered, along with a mental stability test.

Sometimes I wouldn't mind if we had a "benevolent dictator" rather than allow the "masses" to rule. The great unwashed, unlearned, irresponsible. However, the odds of having a benevolent, all-wise dictator for life aren't very good, so the system we have is probably the best.

54. I've always known that Americans are not the brightest. It doesn't shock me that theyhave no idea that 9/11 happened in 2001 - the majority DID vote the man we call "President" so clearly, they are dumb.

Most people in other parts of the world know US politics better than most US citizens. Don't even bother asking them what's happening in other countries.

Americans are leeches on society. They pollute the earth, overeat, are unproductive and arrogant. For such a large country, we have very little to offer. I am embarrassed to call myself an American.

55. Well maybe it could be the fact that some of those "tomorrows leaders" were only around 12 or 13 years old and many parents tried to keep that tragedy away from their children at the time!! Any thougts on that!?

58. what will it take you ask?

well if the terrorist attacks had occurred in hollywood where americas royalty lives, then no one would ever have a problem remembering the day, month, year, hour, second, what color underwear they wore that day etc.

59. I wish this had been done at Harvard or Princeton, because I think there are a lot of Ivy Leaguers who would miss these answers, too. (Of course, with their high-status degrees as tickets to power, they don't HAVE to know these things, do they?)

60. Blowing California off the map would up the IQ of the nation by at least 20 points.

And Racheli - If this country sucks so bad, why are you still here? I hate to sound like a "Love it or leave it" person, but you really seem to have a lot of bitter towards your fellow Americans. You must be a joy to be around. Seriously, people must run from you at parties.

That said, how shameful it is to think that anyone who was over the age of 10 at the time would NOT remember what year 9/11 happened.
